Garlic and Chillies for Garden Pest Control

Garlic and Chillies for Garden Pest Control

This is a recipe I use in my garden to control garden pests that are eating my plants.

Organic recipe with Chillies and Garlic

1/2 cup chillies (diced)
1/2 cup garlic (diced)
4 cups water

Mix vegetables in a blender until they form a paste. Add vegetable paste to water and mix thoroughly. Pour mixture into a glass container and allow it to sit for about 24 hours in a sunny or warm spot in your house. After 24 hours pour the mixture through a strainer into a spray bottle and use the juice mixture to spray on your damaged plants to eliminate the pests.

The garlic will repel a lot of flying and crawling insects and the chillies will repel caterpillars. For sensitive plants, spray the soil around the plant and it will also be effective.

Good Recipe
by: Robin

This looks like a good recipe for controlling bugs and insects in the yard. I will have to try using it.

I have tried just the water and garlic with good results as I know insects don't like any strong odours.

Adding the chillies will make an even stronger smell and maybe repel even more pests around the yard.

Thanks for submitting your garden pest control recipe.

Problem with Caterpillars
by: Tina

I have a lot of problems with caterpillars eating my plants so I am going to try this and I hope it helps. I don't like seeing my plant leaves with chucks taken out of them.

Tomato caterpillars
by: Anonymous

Does this work for tomato caterpillars too? Last year my plants were fine the next day I went out I didn't have a leaf left on my plants.

Robin's Reply
Yes it should work. With the strong smell of garlic and the spiciness of the chillies, those pests should stay away.
